The MentiVerso arrives in Torreón; Jerry Velázquez talks about the "explosive" theatrical fusion.

The MentiVerso arrives in Torreón; Jerry Velázquez talks about the "explosive" theatrical fusion.

Jerry Velázquez had heard "wonders" about the Laguna Region, and now he can confirm that the rumors are true.

The actor and singer is ready to explore Torreón thanks to Mentiras: El Musical and Menti Drags, which will merge at the Nazas Theater to offer MentiVerso on May 23rd in two performances, at 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM.

Velázquez spoke with El Siglo de Torreón about his upcoming visit, which has him extremely excited and happy.

"We're going to be at the Nazas. I have many friends from Torreón who've told me wonderful things about it, and I'm dying to explore those lands and for people to fill the theater to see MentiVerso, which is a very explosive and fun show," he commented.

In that sense, he recalled that one of the very special people he knew from the Shire was the late Hiromi Hayakawa, who was part of Mentiras for many years.

"Hiromi was one of her closest friends from Laguna, and her sister, Kaori, was always involved in multiple plays," she commented.

In the plot, Jerry will play "Dulce", a naive young woman who gives everything for love and whose version will be as a dredge, something that the actor enjoys for several reasons, among them, the greater visibility that the LGBT+ community achieves with it.

"I love the opportunity to bring together the cast of actresses and the cast of drag queens. It's also a chance for audiences who haven't seen a drag show to do so for the first time in a theater, since there are people who are afraid of seeing a man in a wig. More than makeup and wearing a dress, it's a form of expression, of art, of comedy. I think a lot of people who haven't connected with this art form are going to really appreciate it, and that's a beautiful step for any community."

The interviewee admitted that Lies has given him great satisfaction and led him to make one of his biggest dreams come true.

"When I was very young, I saw the play and it had a huge impact on me. I got to see Mariana Treviño, Natalia Sosa, Pia Aun, and Mónica Huarte, and they were impressive. I knew I could never be part of that cast because the character of 'Emanuel' is tall and muscular, something I'm not. I understood that I would only be a fan of the play, and when the opportunity for Mentidrags came along, it was like a hug to that Jerry who came to Mexico City and wanted to be part of the country's theater scene."

For the artist, the 1980s, whose songs from that decade gave life to the plot of Lies, continue to set trends in various fields.

"We live in an eternal nostalgia more than ever. Our mothers listened to '80s music, but now millennials have those memories of them listening to songs by Amanda Miguel or Daniela Romo. At the May 10th performance, we had a performance full of mothers, and it was wonderful," she mentioned.

On the other hand, Jerry can boast without pretension that he's recently been involved in many projects on TV, platforms, and theater; however, he acknowledged that the road hasn't been easy and has been fraught with obstacles.

"I've been fortunate enough to be able to work a lot and expand my possibilities, and for many people it seems like you're not doing anything relevant because I started doing ensembles in theater or in a musical show, so by not being on TV or in the media, people interpret it as, 'you're not doing anything,' and I never saw it that way, because I've always been very busy and even if it was a small role, I always enjoyed it because I did and do what I love."

The actor revealed who the people who have inspired him professionally are. "As far as singers go, I've always loved Freddie Mercury, and the two leads in The Challengers seem like great examples of people who probably wouldn't meet the typical project standards, but who have a great acting chops and have connected with people."
